Kaccha Ammer Chutney.. (sweet and sour mango chutney)

Its getting slowly hot in here because summer time is coming…  Personally i like summer not too much but ya kind of because my favourite fruit is available. I guess you know about what I m talking right .. Yess the king of fruits Mangoes 😍😍  My love for mangoes is undefined …  I think everyone loves mangoes… And this one fruit can be used in anyway you like . U can have them as a fruit obviously 😄😄 U can use them in desserts, savoury dishes , salads , chutneys the list is long and a very delectable one ..

Since right now mainly the raw mangoes are available in the market and in our own backyards if a mango tree is available . The organic ripe ones are yet to be found. Yes some are available but they are not good for health . Hybrid mostly and chemicals are being used which makes them look good but their tastes are horrible. Better to wait and eat the organic ones which will be coming within some time. So some days ago we bought these organic raw mangoes from my mom’s house in the village and it was kept in the fridge for a while and since I got an off day today so thought of making something.

I have been eyeing on making two three items with these mangoes the first one being Pickles obviously, the second one is Tok daal ( our very own Masoor daal is made adding raw mangoes ) and third the Kaccha Ammer Chutney both these dishes being Bong dishes means Bengali dishes. So watching people preparing all these items in FB groups everyday I was becoming impatient hence today I opt for the third one and made the chutney. To my surprise, my mother who doesn’t like sweetness and sourness in her dishes practically begged me to give her more after she tasted it at first.  She was praising so much and I knew that it was good the taste being sweet, sour and spicy made the chutney very delicious.  After watching the recipes in many sites and you tube videos I made this at my convenience . You can have it with rice , chappati or just like that 😉 😉

So with much love I am presenting you the Kaccha Ammer Chutney . Please try it and give your views regarding this . It will be a pleasure knowing that someone tried it and loved it.

BON APPETIT 😃😃😃

Ingredients :

Raw mango – 2 large

Water – 2 cups

Sugar – 6 tspn

Salt – as per taste

Red chilli powder – 1 tspn

Bhaja masala – Whole Corriander seeds , cumin seeds , Fennel seeds and 2 dry red chilli ( roast and grind them into fine powder)

Kalonji- 1/4 tspn

Paanch phooran – 1/2 tspn

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tspn (I used yellow)

Rai – 1/2 tspn

Bay leaf – 1

Dry red chilli – 2

Ginger – 2 tspn pounded

Mustard oil – 2-3 tspn

Method :

1. Wash and dry the mangoes and cut them length wise .

2. Put salt and red chilli powder and mix it well . Keep aside .

3 . In a deep vessel heat oil , then add the dry red chillies , bay leaves, kalonji, mustard seeds and paanch phooran and Rai and let them splutter. Cover it with the lid so that it doesn’t burn your face or body.

4. After the spluttering stops add the mangoes and fry them for about 5 mins then add in the ginger and fry for another 5/6 mins.

5 . Add water and bring to a boil and cover it for about 10 mins or until the mangoes are cooked .

6. After 10 mins add sugar , salt if necessary and mix well. Cook till the gravy becomes a bit thick . Add in one teaspoon of Bhaja Masala in it and stir again and let it simmer for another 5-10 mins or till your desired consistency. I kept it a bit of liquidy so that I can have it with Rice. Now your Kaccha Ammer Chutney is done.

Serve hot with rice , chappati, naan and devour it with immense pleasure and deliciousness.
